What is involved in a consultation?

1. Comprehensive health and dietary questionnaire

Prior to a consultation I will ask you to complete a comprehensive health and dietary questionnaire so that I can gain a full understanding of your situation. This information helps me to prepare for your first consultation and forms the basis of the subsequent discussions.

2. The first consultation

This typically lasts 1½ to 2 hours and involves:

  • a more extensive discussion around your health, history and motivations.
  • an explanation of the main findings based on the information provided and the symptoms you display.
  • focussing on identifying possible nutritional imbalances which could be the causes of your symptoms.
  • negotiating a dietary programme based on the possible causes. I will propose dietary changes which will be discussed and agreed with you. This negotiation process is important so that these changes fit with your lifestyle and preferences. Where appropriate, I may recommend additional nutritional supplements and tests.

Following this consultation, I will provide a written explanation of the main findings and the dietary programme.

3. Follow-up consultation(s)

A follow-up consultation is conducted about 8 weeks later to check on progress and changes in symptoms. This consultation lasts between 45 to 60 minutes. Typically, one follow-up consultation is required. Subsequent consultations will depend on the needs of the individual.

Dietary Analysis Consultation

I offer dietary analysis consultations which involve an analysis of your current diet using a software program.

A report is produced which compares your intake of nutrients to the recommended intake levels and optimum intake levels. This is presented using graphs so that you can easily see how to meet your requirements.

During the DA consultation, I will highlight the key issues and suggest dietary changes in line with these.

You will have the report and a diet plan to take away with you.

Children's Consultations

If conducting a consultation for a child it is the same process. Depending on their age I will collect information from the parent and child and involve the child in all parts of the consultation.
